Shadow
It is set Bamiyan, Afghanistan, and Manchester, England. It is about a 12 year old boy who is determined to escape from Afghanistan to England with his mother. While he is living in the caves in Bamiyan he finds a dog named Shadow who soon becomes his best friend. Shadow is loyal, independent and is always there when you need him.
After a horrendous journey across scorching deserts and mountain ranges they finally arrive in England safe and sound but they don’t know what’s ahead of them…
I thought this book was brilliant; it was a very unique and different book because at the beginning of each chapter there was a name of who was telling the story next. Michael Morpurgo asked lots of question in the text too which made you more engaged with the story. My favourite part of the story was the end where they all did a protest against Yarls Wood (the detention centre) and stood together to get Aman and his mother out. This book is a supposed to be a realistic story and the author has done this very well because it has real places and the dialogue is very real too.
