This week we will be writing about life in our iron-age village which has been named ‘Caledurnia’. Meanwhile onThursdays we have been learning about Roman llife...clothing, jewellery and housing. The Kenyan blog is now set up on the website so hopefully I’ll be able to post photos of the primary schools I’m visiting. Mrs Morrison is going to post comments and questions…and I’ll try and get Kenyan children to answer them. Everyone can join in so please do J Mrs Morrison will be teaching extra days while I am away. We had an excellent trip to the Iron Age Wheelhouse and Souterrain last week. We are now working on our roundhouses this week. We will be writing explanations about wheelhouses, roundhouses, brochs, souterrains and crannogs in our writing lessons. David Hunter (Eden Court Outreach Drama Worker) is teaching a workshop on Wednesday afternoon about the origin of Scottish place names which connects very well with our history projects. This map of Scotland was created by the Roman geographer Claudius Ptolemy ( 90-168 AD) about the time the wheelhouse was built. Last year it was on sale in one of the world's first atlases for £90,000 ! The atlas was first printed in 1475. In Maths we are learning how to solve addition and subtraction problems by reordering the numbers, sometimes this might involve brackets or several written steps. Homework for Friday 18th Sept
This week we will be learning about life in a Caledonian (Iron Age) village through our reading and writing lessons. Click on Maeve to learn more about this time period. (The Roman soldier from last weeks blog also has lots of useful links.) We are planning a trip to the Pictish Wheelhouse and the Souterrain above Loch Eribol for Weds. 9th September. Mrs Morrison has begun an introduction to Roman life (reading, writing and technology). In science we will be investigating friction on different surfaces by carrying out fair-test investigations which require accurate timing. In maths we are working on solving addition and subtraction problems both written and mental. On Wednesday afternoon we are joining Kinlochbervie Primary School for a dance session in the high school. Homework for Friday 4th Sept

This week in our non-fiction reading lessons we will be finding out about the discovery of metals leading to the Bronze Age. In science we will be investigating the properties of a range of metals. Which metals will be conductors or insulators or magnetic?
