Bumble bees are out and about now, the queens are coming out from winter sleep searching around for nesting holes in the ground; where are they getting their food from [pollen]? Picture clue above. Most of the migrant birds are back or will soon be back, including this one we can hear at night in some spots around Durness [and only Durness, although it was once widespread across the whole country]. Do you know what it is called, you are more likely to hear it rather than see it?
I was away last week in the Cairngorm mountains near Aviemore and came across a beautiful reptile sunning itself at the side of the path; also appearing after a long winter sleep, it is harmless if left alone, don’t try to pick one up. P.S. I have never seen one near Durness and would like to know if you have spotted any.
